A.) Senior Adult Support and Information Services
1.) Area Agency on Aging (Region X):  Services Provided Include:

  • The Vantage Point at Northpark Mall...community resource and information center which uses modern technology to assist mature adults chart a course for informed living with information brochures, book and lending library, Medicare insurance counseling, and basic computer instruction.
  • Senior Centers...community "focal points" for senior activities, hot noon meals served Monday through Friday, Meals delivered to eligible homebound elderly, recreational activities.
  • Information and Assistance...Provides info on resources for senior adults.
  • Family Care Giver Program...Provides information and support to family care givers who are caring for senior adults.
  • Respite Care...Offers relief to the person who provides primary care in families coping with long-term illness.
  • Ombudsman Program...Provides advocacy on behalf of nursing home residents.
  • The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)...Offers people 55 years and older with unlimited opportunities to share their energy and expertise.
  • Senior Community Service Employment Program...Provides training and placement for eligible people 55 years and older who want continuing employment or re-entry into the workforce.

D.) Housing, Residential, and Nursing Home Services

Senior Adult Assisted Living

Services provided vary depending on the type of living center.  Examples of varying levels of services include

  1. Skilled Nursing – Transitional care between the hospital and home that includes physical, occupational, and speech therapy to assist a person in regaining the skills necessary for independent living.
  2. Long-Term Care – Provides care and services to individuals in need of an assisted living environment for a longer period of time.
  3. Residential Care Centers – Independent living center in which meals, routine medical assistance, cleaning, laundry, maintenance and recreational activities are provided while allowing the individual to remain independent in his/her lifestyle.
